How The Isle of Cats is scored
Scored once at the end of the game.
The rows below are the app's The Isle of Cats sheet, in the order of the game's score pad. "You enter" is the row's own explanation in the app; "Points" is what the app does with the entry.
Rats
You enter: Enter how many visible rats are on your boat.
Points: Each rat takes away 1 point.
Unfilled Rooms
You enter: Enter how many rooms have not been filled. A filled room is one that has no visible squares.
Points: Each room takes away 5 points.
- Cat Families
A cat family is 3 or more cat tiles of the same colour that are touching; diagonal tiles are not adjacent. Enter how many families you have of each size - cats that are not in a family do not count.
Families of 3 · 3 cats
Points: Each family is worth 8 points.
Families of 4 · 4 cats
Points: Each family is worth 11 points.
Families of 5 · 5 cats
Points: Each family is worth 15 points.
Families of 6 · 6 cats
Points: Each family is worth 20 points.
Families of 7 · 7 cats
Points: Each family is worth 25 points.
Family of 8 or More · 8+ cats (family size)
You enter: Unlike the boxes above, enter the number of cats in your family of 8 or more, not how many such families you have.
Points by the number of cats:
- 0–2 cats → 0 pts
- 3 cats → 8 pts
- 4 cats → 11 pts
- 5 cats → 15 pts
- 6 cats → 20 pts
- 7 cats → 25 pts
- each cat beyond → +5 pts
Rare Treasures
You enter: Enter how many rare treasures are on your boat. Common treasures do not count.
Points: Each treasure is worth 3 points.
Lessons
You enter: Reveal each lesson card you have. If you have completed the lesson, then add those points to your score.
Points as entered.
Public Lessons
You enter: Check each public lesson card and add the points from any completed cards to your score.
Points as entered.
Fish
You enter: Number of fish you have at the end of the game.
Points: Not added to the total; breaks ties only.
Tiebreaker
If totals are equal, the player with the higher Fish wins. The app asks for a tiebreaker row only when a tie actually happens.
