About Brass: Birmingham scoring

Brass: Birmingham (Martin Wallace, Gavan Brown and Matt Tolman, Roxley, 2018) is scored twice, at the end of the canal era and at the end of the rail era. Each time, every link you own scores the link points of the locations it connects, and every flipped industry tile scores the victory points printed on it. Points move the marker on the progress track at once, so the game’s own record of the score is the track itself.

The app offers two ways to record a game. The quick one takes each player’s final position on the track at the end, plus 100 if the marker went all the way around. The in-game sheet instead has a card for each era, with one row for links and one for flipped industry tiles, filled in at the era’s end, and a During Play card for merchant beer bonuses and shortfall losses, so the history keeps where the points came from.

Ties are broken by the highest income and then by the most money left. Income here is the number of the space your Income Marker stands on, not the level on the coin beside it, as Roxley’s Matt Tolman ruled on BoardGameGeek; a higher level is always a higher space. The app asks for both only when players finish level.

How Brass: Birmingham is scored

Points are scored at the end of the Canal Era and again at the end of the Rail Era, for links first and then for flipped industry tiles, and the progress track keeps the total. The app records a game either way, with the same total: at the end, each player enters their final score from the track; during play, the in-game sheet takes each era's points as they are scored, plus merchant beer bonuses and shortfall losses.

The rows below are the app's Brass: Birmingham sheet, in the order of the game's score pad. "You enter" is the row's own explanation in the app; "Points" is what the app does with the entry.
