About Catan scoring
Catan (Klaus Teuber, Kosmos, 1995, Spiel des Jahres 1995) is a race to 10 victory points. Each settlement is worth 1 point and each city 2. The Longest Road and the Largest Army are worth 2 points each. The first needs a continuous road of at least 5 segments, the second at least 3 played knight cards. Each Victory Point card is worth 1 point and stays hidden until someone wins; then every player should reveal theirs.
A common question is whether a city adds 2 points to its settlement. It does not: the city replaces the settlement, so it is worth 2 points in all.
The game ends at once when a player has 10 or more points during their own turn, and that player wins. A player who reaches 10 on another player’s turn, for example when the Longest Road changes hands, can win only on their own turn. The rulebook has no tiebreaker. When players share the top total, or two or more finish on 10 or more, the app asks whose turn ended the game. That player wins, even with fewer points.
The sheet follows the 5th edition rules of 2015. The 6th edition of 2025 scores the same, but calls the Longest Road the Longest Route. The 5–6 Player Extension does not change the scoring. Seafarers, Cities & Knights and other expansions are not covered.
How Catan is scored
Catan has no final scoring round, and the game ends once a player has 10 or more victory points on their own turn. Settlements are worth 1 point, cities 2, the Longest Road and the Largest Army 2 each, and each Victory Point card 1. The app takes every player's total at that moment, hidden Victory Point cards included.
The rows below are the app's Catan sheet, in the order of the game's score pad. "You enter" is the row's own explanation in the app; "Points" is what the app does with the entry.
Victory Points
You enter: Add up the victory points from your settlements and cities, the Longest Road and Largest Army if you hold them, and all your Victory Point cards, including any you have not revealed.
Points as entered.
Final Turn
You enter: Tick for the player whose turn ended the game.
Points: Only one player can have it. It breaks the tie and is not points.
Tiebreaker
If totals are equal, the player ticked for Final Turn wins. When two or more players finish on 10 or more, the player ticked for Final Turn wins too, even with fewer points. This decides first place only; players level further down share their place. The app asks for it only in these two cases.
